During the celebration of the 25th anniversary of AgitArte, we highlighted one of our greatest achievements: the chance to have a permanent space in Santurce, Puerto Rico. After renting for many years, enduring constant open attacks from opportunistic outsiders moving to our barrio, the unchecked gentrification of our community, and facing the uncertainty of being displaced by the harmful wave of AirBnbs; in 2020, we were finally able to drop anchor by buying a space to house our projects. Our Casa Taller Cangrejera provides safe housing to our leadership and artists, and it is still a key creative space for our street theater collective, Papel Machete.
Well into our 3rd year in this new home, we have boosted our community work by offering a space for our people to gather, get organized, create, and work consistently and in solidarity with our fellow comrades, activists, and artists. Once more, we stand by the significance of our political, cultural, radical community work and mutual aid so we can meet head-on the unrelenting violence we experience in this colony in the face of the theft of our lands and the displacement of our people.
May our next 25 years of struggle and resistance allow us to celebrate in victory our own liberation and that of people from all over our archipelago. We will win!
